Lori's fight for her life

On July 16th, 2018  my amazing mother, Lori Mehlberg was admitted to the hospital with a breast infection. While she was there they performed a breast biopsy. She was discharged on July 18th, 2018 after 2 days of IV antibiotics with the diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer. They called a couple days later with the pathology report. She has infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the left breast that has metastasized to other areas. The infection is not completely clear yet and she will need more oral antibiotics. The next plan of attack is a PET scan on August 10th, 2018 and an appt. after that with oncology to know what direction we are heading in.

One of our struggles currently besides fighting against this cancer is the financial burden of all of this. Lori does not have health insurance at this time. She recently started a new position with a company with great benefits but she started out just part time through the summer and did not qualify for those benefits yet. So she is facing many medical bills with a recent hospital stay, testing, and future treatments. I have filled out the financial assistance for her through the hospital but that won't take care of everything.

As most of you know, my mom is the strongest woman I have ever met. She always has a smile on her face (and shorts on her legs) and such a great, positive attitude. She has helped so many people over her 55 years and loves doing it.  She has 2 little boys that love her so much (along with the rest of us) and need their grandma around for a long time.
