Team Lori Expenses

Lori Hodge is the sweetest, most caring wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend that I know. She has been a dependable source of comfort and now it is her turn to be the recipient of others' kindness and generousity.
In January 2016, after months of prodding, testing and misdiagnosing, Lori was diagnosed with Metastasis Adenocarcinoma of the Appendix Stage 4 (cancer of the appendix.) Surgeons found and removed a softball size tumor around her colon and performed a resection of her colon, removed her ovaries, tubes and gall bladder as the cancer had metastasized throughout the entire abdominal cavity. Lori again had surgery in March. This time was an intense 13.5 hour procedure known as Hyperthermic Intraoperative Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy. Due to the cancer’s rarity and aggressive nature, treatment also needed to be aggressive; but, there is not a lot of research and support for Lori and her family facing this difficult situation. Since then she has been hospitalized twice for dehydration and malnutrition. Her digestive organs are having trouble getting back to some sense of normalcy.
Lori worked 14 years in the local school district before her illness made her unable to work. Her husband, Michael, continues to work but, obviously, takes off work for appointments, treatments, etc. The fatigue from these surgeries and chemotherapy treatment has been extreme and limiting in her and her family’s everyday life and work. Lori and Michael are struggling with medical and general household expenses. Treatment, travel and added expenses that come with this diagnosis is taking its toll.
