Lombok Earthquake Relief and Learning Centre

Donation protected
Departing Christmas eve, Pistl Pete (Marty), Flash (Josh) and Lemon (James) embark on a journey of a life time. With sights set on Indonesia’s natural beauty, killer surf and promising new years party scene their trip seemed (at face value) to encompass all the necessary and appropriate parts.

HOWEVER…

Pistl Pete is full of compassion, empathy and goodwill. In a previous trip Pistl had worked alongside Project Why Not, fostering lasting relationships with local families and community leaders in Lombok.

SO NOW IS THE TIME.

Said “journey of a lifetime” may not have included all necessary and appropriate parts after all. Perhaps it would be some charity work with the very local people that Pistl holds so close that would be the final element to bring the trip to fruition?

Pistl, Flash and Lemon are all onboard.

WHY NOT?

All funds raised will be donated directly to Project Why Not, a charity that ensures all donations go directly to the people in need.  And your very own Pistl Pete, Flash and Lemon will be working hands on to implement the raised money in areas that need it most.

Although some money has already been raised every dollar matters, and with Australia’s dollar buying roughly 10467 of Indonesia’s Rupiah it would be silly not to give a little, would it not?

*EARTHQUAKE RELIEF*

- On 29th of July Lombok was rocked by a 6.4 magnitude earthquake, killing more than a dozen people.

- A 6.9 earthquake on 5th of August devastated the island leaving hundreds dead and fleeing.

- And for a third time, on August 9th, a 6.2 earthquake hit.

- An estimated 460 people have died, 7750 are injured and more than 417,000 people are displaced.

- Money raised will be used to provide food, water, shelter and aid to the earthquake-affected people of Lombok.

*KLUI LEARNING CENTRE*

- Following a Project Why Not visit to Klui in 2018 another community positive project began.

- Community leader Patock and his wife Ony are passionate about teaching. Their dream was to one day have a small learning centre where they could share their knowledge with their community.

- The idea was discussed, presented to the village elders and approved to go ahead. So began the construction of the “Klui Village Learning Centre”.

- The learning centre will initially be open to all ages and teach English, community culture (through music and dance), simple environmental studies and more. Luckily, the earthquakes spared the building, however there is still more work that can be done!
