Will you help us feed the hungry in our downtown Oakland community?
The Lake Merritt United Methodist Church Food Pantry, in partnership with the Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB), has been distributing food to those in need for more than 30 years. We open our doors two Saturdays a month, each time serving over 400 families. Last year we provided 179,800 pounds of food, including 113,000 pounds of produce--about 10,200 grocery bags full! We also avoid food waste with our client choice model; instead of giving pre-packaged bags, we help our guests select from available groceries.
Operating our pantry is expensive. Although our staff is entirely comprised of volunteers, and the Lake Merritt UMC congregation covers partial costs, we struggle to provide abundantly to those who come to us for assistance. Our FEMA grants have decreased and the cost of food, though subsidized by ACCFB, has risen.
Our clients face uncertainty in many areas of their lives, but we seek to remain an unfailing source of food. We hope you agree this goal is worthy of your support. 100% of your donation will be used to provide food to those who are hungry. Contributions are tax deductible.
