Living the #RuffLife

When Pete and I were married in December 2016, I never knew that our hashtag #Rufflife would bear so much meaning. Over the last six months, my incredible, strong husband Peter has been fighting tirelessly to survive his terminal diagnosis of ESLD. When Pete and I were in the ICU, our lives changed forever. Even after numerous procedures, therapies, transfusions and medications, our specialist informed us that having a liver transplant was our only option for him surviving this debilitating disease. Although the risks are high, we have no other option but to proceed with the support and medical expertise from the Hartford Hospital Transplant Center. We have had several life changing moments over the last six months where we weren’t sure if Pete was going to make it, but as he always says “I’m not giving up, I’m a fighter and I have a life to live.” His strength, perseverance and faith has amazed me. I have never been so proud to call him my husband. We are truly blessed for every moment we have together and with our family and friends. I thank God everyday he is still here with me. This is not the life we ever expected but this is our current reality and as we all know sometimes “life happens.” After meeting with the transplant team, our financial coordinator recommended starting a fundraising campaign to help us offset the exuberant medical costs, even after insurance, for his transplant surgery, post-transplant care and his costly life-saving medications. So, here we are. Words can’t express how difficult writing this has been not only because we are putting ourselves out there but because we have come to terms with our reality. We can't do this alone.  We are graciously asking and willing to accept help! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your love, prayers, support and contributions! You are truly saving a life and giving me the most precious gift of time with my best friend and husband, Peter.
