Little Libraries Holyoke

Myself along with a team of Holyoke teachers would like to set up Little Libraries throughout Holyoke to share books within the community and promote literacy! Although reading is always important (and fun!) it is especially important to us to increase accessibility to books at this time as our students are currently remote learning. 

Little libraries are beautiful boxes in community places (parks, neighborhoods) where books can be left so that they can be borrowed (and returned) by those who come across them.  We would like to build multiple boxes to place throughout the city as well as purchase books to keep them stocked! We plan on doing monthly inventory and maintenance on our boxes to ensure they are kept beautifully and continue to benefit Holyoke and its' residents.

We, also, are currently working through a 'Building Community' unit with our students and are promoting the importance of contributing positively to one's community. We will be using our project (the teachers) to model community contribution, and hopefully inspire our students to take part in things they feel are important!
