What's So Special About Literacy?

Literacy is a key to emotional health and level of life success. It even determines life expectancy, or how you can expect a life to be lived.

For instance, did you know that some states actually base part of their prison-bed need projections on their current elementary students' reading test performance? (Literacy Project Foundation)

As many of us suspect by now, testing can help leaders make policy decisions, but it's not the way to a child's (or an adult's) heart.

Perhaps ironically, if children simply love to read and spend a lot of time happily doing so, their test scores are guaranteed to rise. (Kids in the 98th percentile read an average of 65 minutes a day!)

And, importantly, kids who learn to love reading can become more compassionate adults. Yes, empathy is tied to a literate life.

How We Help

Tweetspeak Poetry and T. S. Poetry Press are bringing smart, fun, life-giving  aspects to learning materials in a way that goes straight to the heart of learners ... but  our materials are also based on effective methods that teachers, parents, and grandparents will find easy and fun to use.

Besides our extensive collection of tools on the Tweetspeak website (poetry prompts, literary infographics, printable cut-out poets with bios, coloring page poems, and more), we also produce magical and fun children's books that are designed to bring together kids and the adults who read with them.

How Are Our Books Different?

Our tagline for our creative children's line is "Literacy Starts With Love." That's not just heart and poetic expression, it's also science.

Speaking of science, the development of each beautiful or amusing book is based on the strongest research we can find—about what makes learning enjoyable, memorable, and fun.

And, each book is lovingly supported with games and activites inside the books or onsite at tweetspeakpoetry.com—to make learning, sharing, and bonding easier than ever.

We've Seen Your Love

Your interest in the beautiful, life-giving titles of T. S. Poetry Press or in the Tweetspeak community has shown us that you might want to be at the heart of this continued endeavor—by adding a little love to keep it going.

Someday, the children will thank you. The teachers. The parents and grandparents. You might even find yourself inspired by a Monday poetry prompt, or through sharing a cut-n-color poet, or by poring over a gorgeous or amusing children's title. We won't tell—but we hope, in fact, you will.

I grew up in a house full of books with parents who loved to read. I read countless hours to my own 4 children and now share that same joy with my grandchildren. I've worked for literacy councils, and know how important early reading can be for lifelong happiness. I have a large collection of children's books that I add to whenever I find a new treasure. And hope to write one!

I cannot read books very well, but I know they are good to have and to lounge upon and to knock over. I know that C is for cat.
