Listen Threads- the brand that listens to young women.
WHO?
Listen Threads is a fashion social enterprise ran by young women, for young women. Our team consists of youth workers, and also many of the people who have already benefited from the work that we do.
WHAT?
We help vulnerable young women by providing mentoring programmes, work placements and mental health support, funded by the profits of our branded clothing line. We work with the very people that we support to design, produce and sell a range of clothes and accessories, not only raising money for the services we provide, but also helping them learn and develop skills, such as communication, resilience and money-management.
WHY?
We believe that all young women deserve to be listened to, and have their voices heard. We hope to empower both the people who work directly with us, and those in wider society through our campaign, and provide them with a platform to tell their stories. Also, we think it's necessary to address the inequalities young women face because of their gender, and want to work against this by creating job opportunities that will enable them to become financially independent, and have a platform in which their voices are listened to.
HOW?
We want to become a fully self-sufficient organisation who can produce high-quality clothes and use the funds raised from their sales for all of our business expenses- such as paying for materials and wages, and funding a website, which would allow us to grow much further, and reach a much greater audience.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
As I've said, we want to become self-sufficient, but at this point it just isn't possible- that's why we need your help. We want to raise £2000, which will enable us to design and launch our very first website, which is vital for any business in this media age. The money would also go towards buying a printing press, which would allow us to create our clothes in-house, giving our team an exciting new set of skills, and also allowing us to forgo expensive third-party costs- the printing press however, costs £300, and that is unfortunately not something that we can afford on our own. We would also use any donations to buy hang-tags- something that seems so simple, but is absolutely vital for us to become a well-established brand. Any other money that we had afterwards would go straight back to the young women we want to support, providing them with training, and other vital elements of support.
We understand that not everyone has the ability to donate- we know, we work in one of the most economically deprived areas in Britain. If you can give anything, we can't express just how grateful we are.
