Lisa Albinger Breast Cancer Fund

My sister Lisa was diagnosed with Low Grade Ductal Carcinoma In Situ breast cancer two days before Thanksgiving, 2017. She’s 41 and just had her first mammogram which showed the cancer. Our mother died at the age of 46 from lung cancer, when Lisa was 21, so it's scary to see cancer reappearing in our family.  Lisa is an artist and also works three jobs to support herself.  Being single, she only has her income to rely on. 

Lisa is a very healthy eater and has always taken good care of herself, so this diagnosis is quite a shock to us. Due to the size of the tumor, the doctor recommends a mastectomy, so she will be having a double mastectomy and reconstruction within the next month. It will take almost a year of surgeries and procedures for a full breast reconstruction and at this time we’re not sure about chemo and radiation. She has scoliosis and wore a back brace for 4 years as a teenager. Her scoliosis will affect her reconstruction as her rib cage is very disfigured. Her lungs don’t have the regular space in her chest cavity to expand as they should. I’m hoping to raise funds for her to help pay the medical bills and living expenses during this time, since she will be out of work for a while to recover and will have a number of follow-up appointments after the surgery.  I have no idea how much all of this will cost, but any amount of help is greatly appreciated since this will be financially draining on her.   She has been a caregiver for people up until their death and she’s always eager and open to helping people. Now I'm hoping we can help her at a time when she needs it the most.
