Lion's Sensory Den

Donation protected
This year,  Lions Club International is celebrating its 100th anniversary. The Colts Neck Lions Club is marking its 45th year. What better time to undertake an ambitious project dedicated to its primary mission. In 1925, Hellen Keller beseeched the Lions to become " Knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness.”

The Colts Neck Lions have heeded this call by donating to various district projects for the blind. Here in our town we purchased equipment to screen for abnormalities of the eye and have volunteered to screen our children in school. Recently our school nurse informed the club of a parent who was extremely grateful that her 3 year old pre-school child was referred for a follow up visit with an eye doctor. He was diagnosed with a significant vision condition and prescribed eyeglasses to wear all the time. Colts Neck residents may have noticed that we also collect old eyeglasses in a "mailbox" by the post office to be refurbished for the needy.

Recently the Monmouth County Parks System has approved a plan put forth by Lions Club president Justin Lotano to add an extension for the blind and visually impaired in Dorbrook Park adjacent to the existing "Challenger Playground" for children of all abilities. This will be a state of the art playground with various sensory stations. Further details will follow as we are in the early planning stages.  This endeavor will be quite costly and the club is looking at ways to fund it. We will be appealing to you, our neighbors, in the near future to assist us in this worthwhile cause.
