Lindsey's Medical Fund

"This is just a bad dream". These were the words from my dear friend Lindsey Remmert. She is a wife to Sam (Tulsa Fireman), mother of 3 beautiful children (Riley, Henry and Brody), daughter, sister, Cardiovascular Advanced Practice Provider and such a supportive and loving person. She would do anything for anyone. She loves her job at Oklahoma Heart Institute, loves her patients and most of all loves her family and friends. For the past year, Lindsey has had very strange things happen to her. It all began after her 3rd child was born in November 2017. Due to a retained placenta (parts of the placenta were not expelled after birth) she underwent an emergent hysterectomy. This trigged lupus and autoimmune hypoglycemia. She began having leg and arm numbness/tingling, neurological manifestations and some days couldn't walk. Lindsey made trips to the Mayo clinic twice and to St Louis once to rule out Multiple Sclerosis as well as having Lupus. They are still uncertain if she has a rare combination of both. She will now need 2 chemo infusions every 4 months for the rest of her life. Because of the neurological issues, a PET scan was ordered in which another horrifying finding was incidentally seen.....thyroid cancer along with parathyroid hyperplasia (all 4 parathyroid glands are very enlarged causing a significant increase in calcium in the blood stream, hypercalcemia). Lindsey had her left thyroid lobe removed along with 2 parathyroid glands. About 2 weeks later her doctors and herself decided to take the rest of her thyroid due to the cancer that was found on the left as well as the rest of her parathyroid glands except a small part which has been implanted into her neck muscle. I couldn't believe it when she told me the right side had cancer as well and did not show up on any of her tests. She then had a rare complication of the parathyroid being removed which landed her back in the hospital for 2 weeks to get IV calcium. Now she is on twice daily injections (likely forever) just to keep her calcium levels up costing roughly $500-$1000 a month. Lindsey is one of the strongest people I know. In our many conversations we have had over the last year her faith, family and friends have kept her a float. She continues to tell me that she fully trusts in God's plan even though it's been hard and unimaginable at times. She believes that God is making her a better person and also a better provider to care for her patients. She has not been able to work for awhile and her medical bills are only increasing. If you feel led or want to help this precious family get some expenses taken care of, I encourage you to donate. Anything helps!
