Our dear friend Lindsay Orosco needs our help for the next few weeks. She lost everything in a 4-alarm fire on the Upper East Side yesterday. Please spare what you can so she can start to rebuild.

I was absolutely devastated when my roommate called me while I was working late at the office on Wednesday night telling me that I needed to meet her at our apartment because we had just lost everything. Our building was consumed in a quick-moving 4-alarm fire shutting down most of 2nd Avenue on the UES for the whole day. When we arrived the damage had been done and the building was charred out. The FDNY escorted us in one at a time to salvage any valuables that we could before blocking off the building completely.
Stepping into the rubble of your life, seeing your grandmother's framed picture crushed and broken under smoke and debris, wading through the clothes you were wearing hours earlier, now swamped in dirt and water is a gut-wrenching feeling. But for as terrible as experience has been, I count myself lucky. I have the support of beloved friends, caring family, and co-workers who have banded around me as if I were blood. I truly believe that the only thing permanent is change. All that's left to do now is adapt.
