Lilly's Study Abroad

Hello family and friends!

I have some really exciting news! I have been accepted to study abroad in Caen, France next year! It is a small city located to the North of France just under England. I will be studying there for 9 months starting in early September. I have been yearning to study abroad ever since I began college, and it just so happens that it will be a HUGE part of my dual degree in French  and linguistics, here at Western Washington University.

Throughout these 9 months I will be taking french language classes, travelling throughout Europe, but for the most part broadening my view of other cultures and growing as an individual. I plan to continue on with learning the french language (among many others) in hopes that one day I can become an interpreter at the United Nations; my dream job! This experience will put me one step closer to my career in language.

As excited as I am for studying abroad,  the costs are very high. Between tuition, room, board, flights and visa costs I will need to have $28,000 before I depart. I have been working part time these past two years to save up, and so far have roughly $4,000 tucked away. I will be working this summer as well to earn roughly $3,000.  I also have applied to 8 different scholarships, but it is not guaranteed that I will receive any of them.

Although the program that I am going through is not a lavish one, I am unable to work while abroad. This means I will not be able to support myself while I am there, as I have been doing these past 2 years, which is why I am reaching out to you all. If possible I am hoping to have raised $5,000 by August. This would cover the cost of my flights, visa, and food for the entirety of my study abroad.

I am hoping to head out on this journey without the burden of having to take out too many loans. Therefore, I am asking you all to donate, if you are able. Anything helps, even $2 could pay for a bus ticket around town, $10 would feed me for a day, and $25 would allow me to stay in a hostel and explore other regions of the world. Regardless if you can donate or not, I appreciate all the love and support!

Thank you so, so much! Even you taking the time to read this means the world to me.

Lots of love,
Lilly

P.s. Throughout my journey I will keep everyone updated about my experiences in Caen through social media and/or a blog of some sort. I will let you all know soon where to find it!
