Lights that Shine Hope

My name is Racquel Cruz, creator of Lights That Shine Hope and I too am affected by Hurricane Maria's aftermath in Puerto Rico.  Not by the physical sense, but by what pains me in my heart.

Driven by the devotion to my grandmother who passed early this year, I feel greatly that I am to honor her by helping the island where my heritage came from and very proud to do so.  My heritage, food, soul and everything within me from Puerto Rico was passed on by my grandmother.  She is and will always be the light that shines hope within me.  She has made me who I am today.  My grandmother worked extremely hard here in America when I was growing up, cleaning anywhere from 14-22 rooms a day without a single complaint, as her happiness was simply just to make money for her 6 grandchildren to eat and have clothes to wear. (I cry just writing this really).  Even through this, she found a way to make us happy by cooking delicious Spanish food almost every night, playing dominoes and rummy, showing us how to dip our Spanish crackers in our coffee and not being shy at throwing chancletas at us when we were out of line from time to time...  She will always be my light and I would love to make this happen with the heart she gave me and the mind God blessed me with.  My heart not only aches when I think of Puerto Rico and what the people are going through, but it is also what my grandmother would expect from me.  I want to pass on her legacy of love & sacrifice as she did with her children.  This too I believe is the Spanish heart of a mother.

Lights That Shine Hope is a fundraiser to help people in disaster areas use the very first thing that gives them hope to see ahead in their dark days.   The fund helps the purchase of light tools and resources, such as batteries, battery wall switches, flashlights, headlamps, lightbars and much more.

- Battery wall switches stick to the walls like regular wall switches that can illuminate a whole room

- Flashlights and headlamps will help them get around

- Lightbars are big enough to sufficiently light up large spaces

We need this expedited effort to show our American citizens we love them and are there to support them any and every way we can. Our current targeted area, #PuertoRico is only at 38% light on the island and are expected to be without electricity for months.  Can you truly envision yourself in this situation?  Neither could I.

What is the risk you are taking?  A few dollars to some?  The contribution we share with them is the contribution we share together for #PuertoRicoRelief.  We march this effort on together.  From ordering to efforts, we intend to send our audience through our Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/lightsShineHope/ with pictures and stories that will keep you informed on where your money is going, where we are sending it to and what we can do more to help.

Coming from the heart of a Hispanic American, I  can truly say the one thing Spanish people have is perserverence and survival.  We know how to take the worse out of any situation and make it the best.  When you tell us we  can't,---- We can!  When you tell us a lie, ----- we'll throw back the truth.  When you pull our resources,----- we start with the simplest things.  We do it with smiles and laughter.  We love each other and God is in the hearts of the deepest sinner.  We are proud because people have tried to oppress us.  We are loud because we need to be heard.  We will lift each other up and pass the light inside of us.  And if you help us, we are grateful ---- tenfold.

Please help support this fund to give people their first light that shines hope for Puerto Rico to show them humanity and love still exists.
