Help Michael get back on his feet - #liftupmeola

$5,405 of $80,000 goal

Raised by 91 people in 26 days
On January 8th, Michael Meola got into a horrible accident causing him to break BOTH of his legs.

Michael has been strength training and powerlifting for over 2 years and has lifted up to 550 pounds. He was going to compete in his first competition next month but on January 8th… everything changed.

Michael was squatting with 435 on his back and noticed that the barbell was bending because it couldn't support the weight. He tried to launch the bar off his back to get out from under the weight but instead it slid down his back and got caught on his lifting belt causing both his ankles to cave in and 435 pounds of pressure slamming him back to the ground snapping both of his legs.

Michael won’t be able to walk or put any pressure on his legs for up to 6 - 8 weeks and has to use a wheelchair and a sliding board to transfer himself from one place to the next. Even after the 8 weeks, he’s going to slowly learn how to put pressure on his legs again and won’t be fully able to walk on his own for up to 3 to 4 months.

This accident has turned our life upside down. He’ll be out of work for months  and we are having issues with his insurance so we’ve  had to paid for his equipment and pain medicine out of pocket. We have also needed to move to a new apartment so we can accommodate his needs.

Michael was transported to the hospital in a ambulance where he stayed for 5 days and had major surgery on both of his legs. Because we are having issues with his insurance, we are  unsure about the exact amount of his medical bills but we believe it to be 80,000 or MORE!

Life has been crazy lately so I do apologize for not giving an update sooner but they did take off Michael's splints and removed his stitches. Doctor said everything was healing tremendously!

The doctor also said that Michael should start PT ASAP but unfortunately we're still working on the insurance so that's going to have to wait. We appreciate all your support and love.
