Life Through Art: Santa Fe

This summer, I will be conducting and independent research project, “Life Through Art: Santa Fe”. I will be researching the connections between place, community, culture, and art within Santa Fe, specifically focusing on how the large artist population influences the community, and how the community affects the artists’ work. I will be conducting interviews with local artists and cultural institutions to create an oral history of art and culture in Santa Fe, as well as find out how artists and organizations work to engage the community with culture. This project will also include literary research and visiting museums, events, festivals, and other programming in order to gain first-hand experience and insight about the cultural and artistic offerings of Santa Fe. The project will culminate in both a written report and the drafts for an imagined installation piece including original content that would be used to populate the space.

Although I have received some funding through the generosity of the Center for Community Engagement at Amherst College, there are still some project expenses that are not covered. That’s why I’m hoping to raise $750 to help support my research in order to explore this project to its fullest potential.

What your donation covers:
- Admission to museums, historical sites, cultural events, and festivals
- Research supplies such as books, academic journals, and printing costs
- Access to design/drafting software such as Lightwright, Adobe Suite, and QLab for designing the installation piece
- Materials for creating original artwork
