Life Saving Cancer Surgery for Donna Milligan

After several weeks of uncontrollable bleeding my sister Donna was taken to emergency on 9-17. The trauma team immediately gave her blood transfusions and tried to control the bleeding. She was given an ultrasound and they found a massive fibroid causing the bleeding. She was admitted to the hospital and on 9-18 she had an emergency myomectomy to remove the largest fibroid which was causing the bleeding.

The pathology report showed it was malignant and that she has uterine cancer. She was then seen by an oncologist/gynecologist which resulted in her now needing a complete hysterectomy to remove the rest of the fibroids in an effort to keep the cancer from spreading any further. The doctor said after a healing from the hysterectomy she would need a PET scan and chemotherapy, and more tests and doctor visits for follow ups. The insurance is a challenge right now and the hospital has been delaying scheduling her life-saving surgery, because of the cost of the first surgery that has to be paid for, plus the cost of the emergency visit, Dr. bills, CT scans and medications. The surgery needs to be done as soon as possible to save her life.  

Donna has been active for many years with the American Cancer Society‘s “Relay For Life”, fundraising for cancer research and for help for people who have cancer. She now needs help herself and has given much to them in the past.
