Lexi's Recovery Fund

On 3/17/17 my uncle Brandon and his girlfriend Emily took their dog Lexi to get spayed, which is a normal routine surgery. Lexi, who is a year and a half, went into the surgery perfectly healthy and had a successful spay. When coming out of anesthesia Lexi went into cardiac arrest, this is when Lexi's heart and breathing ceased. At this time the technician taking care of Lexi noticed she was not breathing and called for the veterinarian, who was not in the room. The Vet then began giving CPR, epinephrine pen and additional drugs, they were able to revive her and get her vitals stabilized. It is unknown how long Lexi was without oxygen before the veterinarian revived her.
She's about the same . She did finally pee yesterday she had a seizure at 10am yesterday and 12:20 am and then again this morning at 11:55. She's going about 12 or more hours . Every vet has told us different things about the meds. One said it was 1-3 days, one said 3 days and now the last one said it takes a week. The only way to get her at a therapeutic level is to take her in for a shot 500.00 . Then just use the regular meds . She's only been on this new one since Friday at 8

Lexi has been at Berks Animal Emergency Hospital since Friday at 11:30 PM. While at the hospital she has been experiencing focal seizures due to the lack of oxygen when she went into cardiac arrest. On 3/18 she was experiencing these seizures every two hours. At 3:30 pm she made some progress and didn’t have another seizure until 9:30 pm. At that time they decided to try another anti- seizure medication to help prevent the seizures from further happening. At midnight Lexi experienced a very small 30 second seizure. From midnight to 8:00 AM the next day she did not have another seizure.

Lexi has had  multiple diagnostic tests and all tests have come back normal. She thankfully has no damage to any vital organs besides her brain. The doctors have classified Lexi with a brain injury because of the lack of oxygen to her brain. The doctors are pleased that her oxygen saturation levels have been 100% since she’s been at the hospital.

Hours before her surgery enjoying her toys and playing in the snow:

She is currently blind in both eyes but the doctors are in belief that this is only temporary. She is currently laying on her side and unable to stand up. Lexi does feel painful stimuli in her limbs, leading the doctors to believe that she is not paralyzed. She can hear, and feel sensations near her eyes, nose, and mouth.

Lexi at the animal hospital:

When family and friends are speaking to her she is cognitive enough to recognize voices. She cries out to them for attention and slightly lifts her head with some eye movement (as of 3/18 at 4:30 pm)

The video below shows her reaction to family being with her:

The hospital will not continue to care for her unless additonal funds are provided. Bringing her home in this condition is not an option either. Her condition is improving but like humans with brain injuries, dogs need the same time to heal. Given the crucial time, and the correct treatment there is hope for a full recovery. But as we all know time is very expensive. Tomorrow, 3/20/17, her medical bills will have reached $7,900.

They are unable to continue treatment without the help and donations from the many friends, family and caring individuals reading this page. Any amount that you are able to donate will be greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, please share this post and pray for Lexi's recovery because she is very important to all of us especially my uncle and Emily.

As long as Lexi is fighting for us, we will fight for her, no matter what the cost. We don't want to give up on Lexi when she's fighting the battle to return to good health! Thank you from the whole family! God bless. #lifeforlexi #buytimeforlexi
