Lexie and Her Family Need Our Help

Donation protected
We are raising money for Lexie and her family to help with her future welfare and care costs.

Here’s why-

On the 24th September Lexie, aged 3yrs 7months, was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

We have known Lexie's grandparents - Angela and Tony - and her mum, Athena, for years.  We first met them when Athena was not more than a little girl herself. They were in the audience at The Beggar's Fair - one of State of Undress's first ever festival gigs! They've all been followers of our music ever since and Athena brought Lexie to her first State of Undress gig when she was just a few weeks old! They're also supporters of the amazing rock band Saints of Sin (our son is the drummer); and of Ben Caleb Rose, our younger son, who is a wonderful country-inspired singer songwriter. However, they are far more than stalwart Undressers and Sinners - they are our friends!

Here's Lexie's story:

On Thursday the 20th Sept the day started out as any other day would in the life of Lexie:  lots of giggling, running around and happily playing, In the afternoon,  Nana came to visit and lend a hand to Lexie's mummy to build a new 'big girl's bed' for her!

However, later that evening,  she proceeded to be very sick.

Everyone thought she simply had a tummy bug but over the course of the weekend she was very lethargic and she wasn’t keeping anything down – not even a cup of water.

On Sunday, she awoke happy and asking for her breakfast.  Phew!her bug had passed!

But at 11am she was sick once again. Her parents called 111, a 1st responder was sent to assess Lexie and agreed that it seemed to just be  a bad tummy bug. However he continued to do observations which showed a low blood sugar count. Lexie's parents were advised to go to A & E for further observations.

Lexie had various blood and urine tests which all came back clear. However there was still something clearly wrong. She just wanted to stay in bed and not move.

The following day Monday 24th  Lexie had a CT scan.  The scan revealed Lexie had an excess build up of fluid causing pressure on the brain.

The cause of this was a tumour compressing against her ventrical drains and restricting any flow.

Lexie was rushed into Neuro theatre where she immediately received 5hrs of emergency life-saving surgery.

She spent 6 weeks and 5 days in hospital and had to undergo a further 4 brain surgeries, and general anaesthetics for MRI scans where it was discovered she has a further 2 growths/masses.

She’s now at home with her devoted family. But there is a huge journey ahead.

Because of the position of the tumour, it cannot be removed, so she is now undergoing chemotherapy in a hope to shrink it.  However there is only a 30% chance of this happening, It’s also severely affected her eye-sight to the point she cannot see or sees very little.

However, Lexie is amazing and has been outstandingly courageous throughout, Her spirit and love for life and her family and friends is as strong as ever.

She is brimming over with it. All who know her are just stunned by her bravery and resilience and that, despite all she’s been through and all that is still to come, she remains such a happy, loving child and tries really hard not to complain – though she is fed up with all the blood tests and being pricked and poked!

Lexie’s family are some of the kindest, hardest working people you could ever hope to meet – Lexie’s mummy is a dental nurse, and Daddy only just recently became a self-employed sole trader.

So, we would like to raise money not only for the specialist treatment and equipment that Lexie will need and that might not be available on the NHS, but also to help with the extra expenses and costs that they are all facing. As we all know, when you’re self-employed, if you don’t work, you don’t earn.

With the family's agreement, we have set up a designated, completely separate, bank account. It is in my name - Charlotte Rose. All monies we raise - whether from Go Fund Me or other fundraising initiatives - will be paid into this account. The family want us to hold it in the bank account and transfer it it to them as and when they need it.  We are in constant touch. This £5000 is only our first target, We are in this for the long haul as Lexie will need treatment and specialist care for some years to come and we intend to keep raising money for them to help meet some of the costs.

We had planned a big fund-raising gig for 12th January 2019 with fab country-rock artist, Ben Rose, folk-rockers, State of Undress and, headliners, the amazing rock band, Saints of Sin. However, due to Charlie of State of Undress not being very well at the moment, we are postponing the gig. Saints of Sin are currently sorting out a new date with the venue when hopefully Charlie will at least be in the audience and on raffle ticket duty if not on stage! We'll keep you posted.

In the meantime,  if you’d like to contribute to Lexie’s Fund, please donate to our Just Giving Page. Hugest thanks!  Charlie of State of Undress
