Let’s Ramp Up the Leggates!

As many of you may know in August Jeanie’s dad went to the hospital and was diagnosed with septic knee. This started a ball rolling with one medical problem after another... multiple surgeries, a GI bleed, medical setbacks, a course of extended antibiotics and a long recovery.  He went from being in the hospital to a transitional care unit to rehab and now home with home care services. Jeanie’s dad was able to return home the 13th of October, essentially wheelchair bound and with no way of getting out of the house. Jeanie’s plan was to use all her free time to build a ramp outside of their home. Fast forward to the following weekend when her mom calls and asks her to come to their house because she doesn’t feel well. Jeanie finds her mom super sick and essentially drags her to the hospital with the help of her accomplices. Since her admission, she has remained in the intensive care unit. As she was starting to improve this past weekend she had the set back of an emergent surgery, twice. We are unsure of Pati’s recovery at this time due to the set backs of the last weekend. With Jeanie’s mom getting sick the idea of building a ramp is just impossible... even though somehow she still thinks she can find time to build it. Research on ramps tells us it’s far more expensive than anticipated and we are fearful of what the out of pocket costs for hospital bills will be. Even the best laid plans for retirement couldn’t forecast 2 extended hospital stays and long recoveries plus the changes in health care cost.
