Let's help Jessica!

Jessica was diagnosed with Carcinoid Cancer and Neuroendocrine tumors in 2013. Her first surgery was in May 2013, when she was 26 years old, for the removal of a baseball size tumor and four smaller tumors. They also had to remove the tip of her pancreas since the tumor had attached itself to the end. Surgery went well without complications.
Then in June 2013 a scope was done to check and make sure there was no cancer left or no new growths. Unfortunately, the original tumor had spread and was found in her small intestine. It was suggested that she get two octreotide injections to kill the tumor but that did not work so a second surgery was done in September 2013 as well as a small bowel recession. While closing her surgeon accidentally stapled her bile duct closed. After three days in the hospital unaware of the complication, she was sent home. After being home three-four days she become very ill and had to be driven to the ER and was then admitted into the hospital for a week. Her bile had been backing up and draining in her system. She had the beginning stages of liver and kidney failure. She was jaundice and very very sick. She had to have a tube put in her side to drain the bile out in a bag that was attached to the tube which she had to keep for 3 months. She had to go to Baylor in Dallas to have a bile duct reconstruction done. She will now have pain in her abdomen for the rest of her life.

After all of that, she had to have blood drawn every 6 months to check for tumors. Jessica was clear of tumors for 4 years. Her tumors have now returned. She’s had blood drawn and a biopsy done by sticking a needle through her back. She has to once again go to Baylor in Dallas for treatment and surgery. Depending on what a scan shows she might have to have some form of chemo before her surgery. She also has to have a small procedure to fix a continuing issue with her bile duct reconstruction.

All of this has put a financial strain on her and her husband. Now, Jessica is waiting on a specialized scan to find out if she has more than the one tumor they have already found. They have been waiting weeks for insurance approval which is scary due to the chance of her cancer spreading without treatment. If insurance refuses to pay for the scan it will cost $3600 to get it done and if they do pay it will still be almost $1000. With this impending cost as well as daily living expenses, travel and stay in Dallas for appointments and surgery and Jessica missing work, a huge worry and financial burden has been placed on this couple.

I have started this GoFund me account to try and take some of the burden away so Jessica can focus on just getting better! Please give what your able and leave her a message. Thank you for your donations and/or prayers.
