Have a heart for Lena Rose

On June 4th, 2015, our precious Lena Rose went into cardiac arrest while driving with her mom, Maureen Egan, and big sister, Lily. Maureen performed CPR until EMTs got there and were able to revive her in the ambulance. Lena was transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) where she’s been undergoing testing and procedures to find the reason WHY this happened and how to prevent this nightmare from ever recurring again.
The doctors have determined that Lena’s condition was truly the perfect storm of lethal events. They found Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome, which has since been addressed by a procedure called ablation. However, she still has cardiomyopathy. Treatment of this is long term medical management including drug therapy and the implantation of a cardiac device to control arrhythmia. This being said, there are complications and side effects involved due to her size and age.
Although we know that Lena is in the best place possible, being away from home is becoming a real burden not only emotionally and mentally but financially as well. Dad, Junior Gonzalez, makes the trip from Kearny, NJ to Philadelphia as often as possible with Lily and big brother, Aiden. Besides the balancing act of trying to keep his family together and visiting and worrying about Lena, there have been additional expenses generated for lodging, meal & travel (gas, bridge toll, turnpike tolls, etc.). Unfortunately, we don’t know what awaits down the road as well regarding medication, special equipment or procedures that may not be covered by insurance.
Anyone that knows Maureen or Junior knows that they are the first to lend a helping hand to others regardless of situation. Our prayer is not only for baby Lena’s complete recovery but also to assist with somewhat easing the financial burden thrust upon her parents.
