Lekadi's Education

Donation protected
The purpose of this campaign is to help my Maasai brother from Kenya achieve his dream of getting an education.  Life is difficult for him right now and drought and other difficulties with livestock have made it impossible for him to raise the funds to get his education and be able to eat and live simultaneously.  Personally I've always found eating and living to be central parts of getting educated in anything.  Please give what you can, keep in mind our money goes a lot further over there (about 10x if I remember correctly) than it does here in the states.

I asked him to write something about why he wanted to go to college so you can read it in his voice.  I will admit to doing a small amount of editing as english is his 3rd language.

"Since I was born I have desired an education from Nursery up to today. I am working to fulfill my dream to become educated in Human Resource Management and to help my community work well. Most of the youths, women and men, lack enough education to get a good job.  I want to give them hope and encouragement and show them the importance of Education as most of my community does not know the meaning of it. Most others my age drop out of school and follow cultural ways which has no future for them. Most of the managers in our area are not from our area. They are selected because of their tribal backgrounds because of who is in power. If there's any vacancies they call from outside this community; we want to enjoy the fruits of education and leadership from people from our area. How can we enjoy that if we have less Education? How can we can fight the corruption of favouring others from their background, when will be able to change our community, when will be able to change ourselves from darkness into light. I have taught my family, friends, former classmates,of my society as an ambassador of education. I want to teach them the main role of education and encourage those who are still here to continue with their education to continue working and to congratulate them."

This is the school Lekadi is hoping to attend.  He is interested in learning about Human Resources and Business Management.

This is Lekadi and I at the Global Youth Peace Summit in Kenya.  He is kind, intelligent, and peaceful.  He also knows more about tracking and hunting than I could ever hope to.  He would likely be significantly better at my job than I am, all of his knowledge on the subjects I teach is generational.

Please give what you can afford, the Holiday season is approaching, if you are looking to do more than just give someone a gift, donate here.  This is an opportunity to make a large impact for an entire family for generations.  The world's changes are making it impossible for Maasai youth to survive using the cultural tools available to them.  Education is necessary for him to thrive, for his family to thrive, and for future generations to thrive.  Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.  Let's all do what we can.
