What a difference a day makes, 12 little hours!

It was an adventure-filled plan for one of the last weekends of summer before returning to work as a para educator at Spanish Fort High School.  An enthusiastic Leigh began her Saturday (August 13th 2016) with a thrilling zipline ride over the beautiful canopy of longleaf pines and Coldwater Creek in Northwest Florida.  Cliff took a video of her, you can hear her totally experiencing the thrill - it is so Leigh, it makes you smile!  She had that exuberant feeling you get after completing such a feat, you know the "that was a blast" feeling with your heart racing?  For Leigh that feeling was short lived, no more than 10 minutes to be exact.  That is when her leg began shaking uncontrollably and a few moments later her arm began to spasm as well.  Within 30 minutes of completing the zipline course she arrived at Santa Rosa Hospital only to be rushed to the higher-level care facility of Sacred Heart in Pensacola.  By night fall, that same Saturday, she was diagnosed with a brain tumor.  BAM, just that fast! What a difference a day makes, 12 little hours!

Her first surgery was scheduled within the week, yet it had not been a week since she was zip lining through the air! Unbelievable, what a difference a day makes.  She was ready for the craniotomy, even faced the surgery head on, pun intended, “let’s get this tumor out” along with her sassy, positive “I got this” attitude! Even when the dreaded results were confirmed- glioblastoma (a fast-growing aggressive cancer that attacks the central nervous system) she did not let it get her down; she... was going back to work, she... had a new grandchild with another on the way and she... had her youngest beginning his senior year of high school.

Fast forward to today: After multiple rounds of mega steroids, numerous forms of anti-seizure drugs, dozens of radiation treatments, chemo pills, intravenous chemo and two craniotomies she has never COMPLAINED.  Well, ok...  one time she said that she just wanted to go home, that is not much of a complaint in my book! Her attitude is holding steady and is still just as positive as the morning she went ziplining over those tree tops.  She is an incredible fighter!

Leigh has had so many friends offer assistance and right now she really needs us!   Her immediate family members do not live close enough to help on a continued basis, Tara and Anderson both have new babies at home and full time jobs, Charles is finishing his senior year in high school, leaving Cliff with all aspects of her care.  She now requires round the clock assistance and simply cannot be left alone, hospice is a true blessing but does not help with the hour to hour care that is now so desperately required to keep her comfortable.

The purpose for this GoFundMe account is to secure and fund a professional sitter service (not covered by insurance)!  Our goal will provide  twenty-three 12-hour professional care night time shifts.

If you are not able at this time to contribute, please consider sharing this site and continue to pray for her and her family.  We all can agree, she would be the first person to help anyone!
