LMSA Legal Aid for DACA Students

The Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) represents Latino medical students across the United States. We work to encourage academic and professional excellence in our students through peer support and advocacy.
Over the past 4 years the LMSA Policy Committee has worked with medical students and advocacy organizations across the country to support our students who suffer from U.S. immigration law. Many students have matriculated to medical school as DACA-eligible individuals, making their immigration status public in hopes of equal access to educational opportunities. Our DACA-eligilble students have shared their fears of deportation not only for themselves, but for their families and loved ones.
To ensure students in our network are able to access legal resources we are creating a Legal Aid fund for DACA-Eligible students in a immigration related legal crisis. Executive powers will be transferred to Donald Trump on January 26th, 2017. We hope to raise $30,000 for DACA-eligible Latino students by that date.
LMSA is a non-profit, student lead organization, and all funds will be directed towards legal relief for our students. Latino medical students will be prioritized to recieve funds, followed by Latino students and individuals who may not be in medical school. Any left over funds will be used for educational scholarships for DACA-eligible students. We sincerely thank you for your compassion and support for aspiring Latino medical students.
