Lee's professional development fund

Donation protected

11/5/19 14:30 - Thank you for smashing my target! I've set two new stretch goals to reach before the end of May:

At £350, I will send a postcard from Aulus-les-Bains to everyone pledging £10+. I'll need your postal addresses for this, so I'll be in touch if we reach this goal.

At £500, I will record a radio show about my time in AlB, to be broadcast on Ship Full Of Bombs community radio, and I will invite you to be in the audience for the recording, at an event in either Colchester or Southend which may include some other performances, but will definitely include freshly baked mince pies.

Check today's update for more information. Thank you!

So a bunch of people have said in the last few weeks that I should start a fundraiser, because they'd "totally" contribute, so let's see if they put their money where their mouths are!

My name's Lee. I'm nearly 32, and I'm a poor, starving artist. (I'm also a dementia care professional, and have an Autism Spectrum Disorder, but for the purpose of this fundraiser, let's just go with "poor, starving artist.") This summer, I'm planning to attend a course in the south of France with an aim to develop my skills as a performance, musical, and conceptual artist, and work on my continuing professional artistic development. The course is hosted in collaboration with Bradford-based organisation CAMP and artist Bill Drummond. CAMP have already agreed to offer me a partial hardship bursary, and I've worked hard to find the rest of the money by various means. However, with only a few weeks to go, I find myself a little short on funds. So with some trepidation, and on recommendation of many friends, I'm starting this fundraiser to see if I can jump the final hurdle.

As an artist, I've already had the chance to work with some incredible artists and organisations, including Mammalian Diving Reflex, Sheree Rose, Sh!t Theatre, Hunt & Darton, Asperger's Are Us, Scottee, Colchester Arts Centre, and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. My work encompasses live music, performance art, and comedy. I am currently developing several full-length shows on topics as broad as autism, mental health, masochism, funerals, and the teatime quiz show 'Pointless'.

Having worked with Bill Drummond before, and knowing people who give high praise having attended workshops organised by CAMP, I am confident that attending this course will provide me with the skills I need to develop these ideas further, and will generate new ideas and ways of working I've yet to consider.

As a thank you to those of you donating money, I pledge that within three months of completing the course, which ends on 15 July 2019, I will send you some work that has been completed as a direct result of the course. This could be an album, a piece of writing, a video, tickets to a show - I have no idea yet, but it will be just for you, as a token of my gratitude.

Thank you for taking the time to read my plea, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch. Thanks!
