Layla's Insulin Pump and Monitor
Donation protected
Hi! I am Layla Williams and I am 7 years old. I was diagnosed this past June with Type 1 Diabetes. For those of you that may not know, this type makes me insulin dependent the rest of my life. My pancreas has become a dead organ. I have to have up to 15 blood checks (finger pokes) and up to 6 insulin injections every day. That's a lot of needles in one day for any kid, including me. Right now, my levels are all over the place. I can start the day with a 500 and drop to a 42 in less than 2 hours. A normal reading is in a range of 100-95. It is very critical that I stay within my specific range, but my body has yet to do this. If I get above 300 I risk going into diabetic ketoacidosis. Big words that mean I can lose my ability to breathe, go into seizures, coma and eventually death. If I drop below 80, I have a shorter amount of time to get help. The same thing happens when i get too low, my legs feel like noodles, I have no energy, I get to where I can't move, and I could go into seizures, coma and eventually death. Type 1 Diabetes is a very scary auto-immune disease. There is NO CURE!
Please help me; by any donation you can, to afford to recieve an insulin pump and a blood sugar monitor. This will lessen the amount of finger pokes and insulin injections I have to have everyday along with alerting my parents, teachers, and those around me of when my sugar is going high or low. I just want to go to school, play with my friends and be a kid. But, now that I have this disease. I spend most of my day in the nurse's office getting checked or treated for a low or a high. My friends and classmates always ask me why I have to go to the nurse all the time. The pump and monitor would also lessen the time I spend in the nurse's office and allow me to spend more time learning and being a kid! Again, please help if you can. The sooner I can be put on the insulin pump and blood sugar monitor the better. Every second counts!
Thank you in advance!
Love, Layla Williams
