Layaly

Layaly’s story is as tragic and heartbreaking as it is hopeful, filled with love, compassion and devotion of people that have known her, and those that have never met her. I personally, as am sure many others have cried many tears of desperation, frustration and sorrow when she went missing for the second time in Canada; the place that was supposed to be safe for her.

Many of you do not know that Layla’s story began in Egypt and it was so intense that one of the Egyptian documentary producers offered to film a documentary about her, not knowing how it will turn out, what will happen to her, and will she even survive the ordeal. And Layaly did survive three close calls, where death was just lurking at the door; when captured in Egypt and taken to the vet, he said if she was two days later she’d not survive the ordeal. As a matter a fact I have recently found out that another dog was found close to the time she was captured, also with a wound around his neck from a rope being tied there, and sadly that boy did not make it.

Second time Layaly survived death was when just a few days later, the entire pack of dogs she lived with was poisoned, which is a standard procedure in Egypt to control the dog overpopulation. Had she not been captured the few nights before she’d sure be there lying with them.

Lastly, our beautiful escape artist survived her close call, when carelessly, she was given the opportunity in her Canadian foster home to bolt through the screened patio door.

She was seen on the busy highway every day and every nigh without a fail; a few times those of us that had been searching for her every day and late into the early morning the next day witnessed her run right into the traffic, being missed by the car or a track just by inches.

But survived she did, as she is a fighter, an unafraid inspiration to all of us making us realize that anything can happen and not to loose hope.

Today August 6th, she went into the hospital in Toronto to have her CT scan and surgery on the neck.

Just recently speaking with the surgeon,I found out that she is still waiting for the interpretation of the CT scan by a radiologist, and the surgery will not take place till tomorrow.

That means our girl will stay there till Thursday at the earliest.

I know she will miss our Peaches and Darwin.

That brings me to the part that I once again need to ask for your support and help.

The estimate for the surgery came to close to $5,900. That is if glands on one side only need to be removed. Of course, if the radiologist feels the glands on both sides need to go, the cost will only go up.

I want to ask those of you that can and want to help, to please donate towards the surgery.  Not all of us can adopt her, but a lot more can support our efforts to help a dog like Layaly and donate to her medical treatment. I know there are many amazing people out there that have helped us look, called in with sightings and are able to donate towards her surgery.  Layaly could not be here in Canada going through all the bad, the ugly but mostly the good and amazing experiences without me knowing that I can indeed help dogs like her as the generosity of your hearts is overflowing with love and willingness to help.

Your donations can be send via etransfer to our rescue at [email redacted], PayPal under the same email address, via the GoFundme page attached to this post or by calling it in to the clinic (416-380-7400). Should you choose the latter, please be mindful that once she comes home hopefully on Thursday, the bill will need to be paid which I will do so from our rescue’s  funds, so at that point, donating to the clinic will not be possible.

You can see attached estimate with the name and the phone number of the clinic on it.

Once again, I am absolutely blown away at the amazing following our Layaly has. Who would have thought that a street dog from Egypt, one of millions (there are 2million Egyptian Baladi living on the streets of Egypt, by the way, most of which will die there, and never know a kiss on their forehead, or a belly scratch) will touch so many people, and so many people will follow her story and rule for her.

For that, I thank you all, from the bottom of my heart.

Big hugs to all.
