Lauren Muscat is 27 years old and resides in West Dundee, IL. She is currently in Nursing school at Loyola University in Chicago, IL.
She needs everyone’s help to get through her next obstacle in order to achieve her dream of becoming a nurse.
In December 2015- Lauren was dealing with a recurrent sinus infection and complained of pain behind her left ear. She thought it was just because she had been ill , and possible swollen lymph nodes. This pain did not go away, so the doctor ordered a CT scan for further investigation. This showed a suspicious mark near the parotid gland. She then had surgery in May 2016 in order to biopsy the abnormal tissue. Unfortunately the area biopsied was found to be cancerous in nature and in close proximity to the facial nerve.
She sought further diagnosis and treatment at Mayo clinic in early June 2016. She received a definitive diagnosis: Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma.
A surgical team at Mayo clinic have come up with a treatment plan to help Lauren toward recovery and remission. The surgical plan is to remove the cancerous tissue and complete a nerve graft. The goal of this procedure is to prevent the cancer from spreading into the facial nerve. This will give Lauren a better quality of life. Even though the surgery comes with risks - the positives outway the negatives.
Surgery is scheduled for June 24, 2016.
We are asking for your support to assist with medical costs, and weeks of radiation therapy following her surgical recovery.
