Lauren's Heart

Donation protected
Many of you know that my sister, Lauren, has suffered from abnormal heart arrhythmias and complications for the majority of her life. She has been on multiple medications, and this last weekend she was admitted into Children's Mercy to be monitored while starting a new medication.

Unfortunately, Lauren went into cardiac arrest during her stay and was rushed into the pediatric intensive care unit where she again coded. After 38 minutes of continuous CPR she was able to be resuscitated. After she became more stable they were able to put her on the ECMO machine, which essentially takes over the function of her heart and lungs for her.

Lauren's heart condition is abnormally rare, and the surgeons working with her have never seen anything like it.

On 6/12/19 she went into surgery to attempt to correct a ventricular arrhythmia she had recently developed as the first step of her treatment, but proved to be unsuccessful. There are a couple of treatment options available, including drugs and possibly heart transplant. I will be updating this page as we receive more info!

Update 6/13/19
Lauren has begun the process for getting onto the wait list for her heart transplant surgery. Today one of the doctors on her team talked with her and informed her she will be getting a new heart. She took it very well and even asked to hold the doctor's hand.

This fundraiser will go to help my parents with the medical expenses of Lauren's stay, procedures, and medications. As you can all understand, this cause is very close to my heart. My family has never faced a tougher situation than this even with her previous health problems.  Anything helps including prayers and good thoughts.
