Laura Dermody Meningitis Recovery

On Wednesday May 16th Laura started to have an ear ache. By the next morning she was in severe pain and had a high fever. She was not very responsive, vomiting, and didn’t seem to have all of her facilities. Her wonderfully intelligent daughter, Lacie, knew that she needed to do something for her loving mother. She called her grandparents and told them that Laura was really ill and they needed to get their asap.
Later in the day Laura was rushed to the hospital and was in a state of toxic shock with a 106-degree temperature and wasn’t able to recognize her family. She had a severe case of Meningitis and the doctors didn’t think that she was going to make it through the night. They operated on her brain that night to remove the large accumulation of pus in the brain and ear.
She was brought to the ICU where she stayed hooked up to a breathing tube unconscious for three days while she was receiving antibiotics and several other medications. Laura finally regained consciousness on Monday morning. She was able to be moved into the critical care unit by Tuesday and then onto a rehabilitation hospital on Friday. On Tuesday May 29, after 13 days in the hospital, she was able to be released to the care of her parents.
Laura is the most loving and caring mother, daughter, sister and friend who has touched the hearts of so many. We are all extremely lucking to still have her in our lives. Please find it in your heart to help Laura with her medicals bills so she can just focus on her recovery.
