LARRY D. TYLER, III SCHOLARSHIP FUND

On December 31, 2017, the community of Cleveland, Mississippi suffered a grave loss.
A remarkable young man, Larry "Lil Larry" Davon Tyler, III, was shot and killed. His loss caused a void in many lives.

Lil Larry was a junior that was attending Cleveland Central High School, and he was a standout athlete and an exceptional student who maintained high academics all through his school years. After the conversion of East Side and Cleveland High, now Cleveland Central High School, #27 made the first touchdown for the newly consolidated team. Lil Larry made 1st Team All-Region 2-5A, 2017-2018, and was a Bolivar Commercial All-Area Selection. As well, his athletic abilities played an enormous part of the team’s victory of Cleveland Central finishing its first year 12-1 with a Region 2-5A Title. The number 27 is significant because it was the number Larry Davon Tyler, III wore in football for Cleveland Central High School.

Lil Larry desired to graduate in the class of 2019 and to enter college majoring in engineering to become a Civil Engineer.

Although he was taken away before his dreams could be fulfilled, his family would love to offer scholarships to 27 graduating seniors at Cleveland Central High School beginning May, 2019.   For the reason that Lil Larry ran track, and came in first place on the 100-yard dash on the State level in Pearl, MS, played baseball, and was recommended as being one of the best 150 high-school baseball players in the State. As a result of his athletic abilities, he was selected to attend the MS Elite Baseball Showcase in Hattiesburg, MS. Lil Larry (#3) was one of the hitters that led the Trojans to two wins. Lil Larry led East Side at the plate with three hits including a triple with two RBI’s and two runs scored. He was one of the players that made region 3-3A District Champions (20-8 Overall and 9-1 Conference) for East Side Trojans; he also played basketball for D. M. Smith Middle School. The goal is to raise $17,000.00 for the scholarship fund with the scholarships being awarded each year in honor of the life and legacy of Larry Davon Tyler, III.

In the first grade, Lil Larry took an IQ test, and the results showed that he had an IQ of 119. The completion of the testing data indicated that he scored in the superior range in all phases of the assessment required for eligibility. Lil Larry's IQ test was a reflection of his excellent academic performance. In the 7th grade, while attending D. M. Smith Middle School, Lil Larry received a qualifying score on the state standardized test at or above the 95th percentile. He received a congratulation letter and an offer from Duke University Talent Identification to attend the Duke University Talent Identification Program at Duke University and was recommended by Duke University Talent Search to take the ACT.

Moreover, as a result of his accomplishments in athletic and academic abilities, scholarships will be given to students in every sport and those that are honor students. Each scholarship will total $500. Please know that to qualify for the scholarship, one must be enrolled to attend a college and must be an honor student. The scholarship will be distributed once a class schedule has been issued, and brought back to the committee for review of enrollment at a Community College or University.

We are asking for donations to help us reach our goal so that we can be a blessing to his fellow athletes and other exceptional students. We want to be a blessing to those who loved and cherished him as much as we did. He will forever remain in our hearts.

Long Live Larry Davon Tyler, III. #LLLT3
