150km Charity Cycle

£765 of £500 goal

Can you help me make a difference? On Sunday 25th August, I’m taking part in the annual ‘Lap the Lough’ cycling event, alongside my uncle and cousin to raise money for Newtownabbey Parkinson’s Support Group and Parkinson's Society of the United Kingdom. Any donation received will be divided equally between the two and will help to make an impact across international research and local support. The 150km route around Lough Neagh crosses five counties and is designed to challenge cyclists of all levels.

Back in 2008, my Grandad organised the first meeting of the re-formed Newtownabbey Support Group, so that my Nannie, who had Parkinson’s, could continue to meet and socialise with other people with the condition. A total of 12 people attended the first meeting at Whiteabbey Hospital. Fast forward 10 years and over 50 people now attend. Sadly, both my Nannie and Grandad have passed away, however the wider family circle continues to volunteer for Parkinson’s UK and manage the Support Group. It offers information, friendship and support to local people with Parkinson's, as well as their families and carers. They also organise regular events and social activities throughout the year.

Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

More information about Parkinson's Society of the United Kingdom: Every hour, someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson's - a brain condition that turns lives upside down, leaving a future full of uncertainty. Parkinson's UK makes sure people have whatever they need to take back control - from information to inspiration. We want everyone to get the best health and social care. Ultimately, we want to end Parkinson's. That's why we inspire and support the international research community to develop life-changing treatments, faster.

How it Works
  1. You are donating to PayPal Giving Fund UK, a registered charity (No. 1110538), which will email you a receipt for your donation and claim Gift Aid where eligible.
  2. GoFundMe’s platform is free. The charity will typically receive the funds from PayPal Giving Fund within 15-45 days of your donation if the charity has enrolled (or 90 days if the charity has not yet enrolled). Unlike other platforms, 100% of any Gift Aid will go to the charity as well.
* In very limited cases, a recommended charity may cease to meet PayPal Giving Fund's legal or other eligibility requirements. In such cases, PayPal Giving Fund will reassign the funds to a similar charity, and (wherever possible) seek a new recommendation from donors.
