Lano's Medical Bills

Donation protected
Hey Everyone,

I have been tossing up whether or not to start this campaign as I feel bad asking for help with money, but I have decided to launch it so that Lano can get every possible thing that he needs to help him survive yet another life or death situation :(

Let me start by saying that anyone that has met me knows that since i rescued him over 2 years ago, Lano has been the absolute love of my life and my entire life revolves around him. Anyone that has met Lano also knows that he is the sweetest lil guy who has had a pretty rough life.

Lano is currently at Sunset Vet in Kuta fighting for his life as a result of Ehrlichiosis, a tick-bourne disease that affects the organs and brain.

Lano was extremely susceptible to this disease as a result of his poor immune system caused by distemper when he was only 7 months old (which he recovered from without brain damage, against all odds!), and his recurring leg infection which has been ongoing for over a month.

My beautiful little man has undergone a blood transfusion and is now in recovery with 24/7 observation at Sunset Vet. The situation is still pretty touch and go, with Lano's blood count still not stabilised. But we are all crossing our fingers that his condition continues improving and he can begin his recovery.

The cost of Lano's vet work up until this point is around $500 (including the transfusion), but now with an indefinite stay at Sunset Vet, this is going to pile up on me.  I know that anyone who knows Lano, and is financially capable of donating, would want to be able to help him and won't hesitate to do so (and thankyou so so much to everyone who has offered already, i love you all so much).

Anyone that can't donate, that is absolutely fine, and everyone who is in Bali is more than welcome to go and visit him and give him a massive cuddle for me (also thanks to those who have already visited him or are going to over the next few days).

I'm hoping to raise enough money to cover his medical costs, and if possible, a flight to go and be by his side for the hardest part of his recovery. But the medical costs are the most important thing, I want to be able to make sure he gets absolutely everything that he needs to survive and recover.

Any excess donations will go to Mission Pawsible, which is Prue's rescue - she jumped straight on board with helping me and Lano, and organised Hero to donate his blood. Please look Mission Pawsible up on Facebook and Instagram to see the amazing work they do.

This is their website.

Here's the in-depth story of what was happened to Lano so far (will update at the end whenever I get more information from the vet):

On Thursday night, my beautiful little Bali Dog, Lano was rushed to Semer Vet by Teena and Mars (who I literally cannot ever thank enough for everything they have done for Lano) with extreme lethargy, dehydration and weakness. He wasn't eating and his gums were white. He was immediately hooked up to an IV and underwent numerous tests to find out what the cause of his symptoms was.

The cause wasn't discovered immediately, but what was discovered was that Lano desperately needed a blood transfusion to save his life.  Hearing this made my heart drop, especially since I am in Australia at the moment and can't be by his side.  It wasn't looking good for Lano either, his Red Blood Cell Count should be 35-55% and his was 5%. His blood count for everything was dangerously low.

I got this news at 3am Friday morning and immediately began the search for a donor. Finding a donor is one of the hardest things - the dog needs to be over 25kgs (which is pretty rare in Bali, Lano himself only weighs 14kgs),  a good medical history (also rare in Bali), be physically healthy enough to recover from the donation and on top of that, also be a match to Lano's blood type.

In my desperation, I probably messaged every single person I know in Bali (sorry guys) to try and find a donor. Long story short - my beautiful friend, Prue, who I met through the Bali Dog Halfway House, messaged me back saying that she had organised her rescue pit bull, Hero (very fitting name) to meet Lano at the vets when they opened at 9am (huge thankyou to his Dad, Indra as well for taking him there and waiting with him).

(I'd also like to take this chance to quickly thank everyone who was on standby with their chubby babes if Hero's blood wasn't a match!! - especially Brian, Louise, Todd, Chad, Gary and Rodd for all offering up their pups.)

It took until late afternoon to hear back that Hero's blood was a perfect match and he had already donated enough blood for Lano's transfusion. This was such a relief, but due to Lano's condition, his chance of surviving the transfusion was only 50%. Cue more crying, etc etc.

This was also extremely bittersweet because at the same time as finding out that Hero was a match, Lano was also diagnosed with Ehrlichiosis, a tick-bourne disease of which Australia is the only country to deny entry to animals who have antibodies for it :(
Meaning that, unless by some miracle we can get his antibody count undetectable, he is now unable to be moved to Australia.

But, Lano had blood for his transfusion!

Lano underwent the transfusion about 2 hours later, and it seems to have gone well so far - his Red Blood Cell Count is slowly improving (was 15% at the last test late Friday night) and he is now able to stand up. He still hasn't stabilised enough to say that he will definitely survive, but the odds have improved now that he has survived the transfusion.

At around 9pm Bali time (midnight in Australia), Teena and Mars (the best couple in the entire world) drove back down to Semer Vet to transport Lano to Sunset Vet who are open 24 hours and can observe his condition continuously.

Once Lano arrived (after peeing all over Mars' car, lol sorry) at Sunset, they assessed his condition and changed his drip. He is now in their recovery room, getting a check up every 1-2 hours.

This is as of 12pm Australian time on Saturday, which is 9am Bali time. I'm currently waiting for the vet to finish their rounds and report back.. will update ASAP.

I cannot begin to thank everyone enough for everything they have done so far. I am so overwhelmed by the love and support we are getting from people not only in Bali, but all over the world. I love you all so much. You are all absolutely amazing xxxxxxx
