WHO ARE WE?
Trybe was founded by three Ugandans and two Germans last year in autumn. We tackle the one way-street of plastic consumption around Lake Victoria in East Africa. We fight against further plastic pollution and its destruction of natural habitats of wildlife and people. We want to prevent further economic and societal challenges at Lake Victoria region through shrinking fishing opportunities, disease outbreaks and destroyed landscapes. Our solution is youth engagement and education in sustainability and environmental sciences.
So far, we offer a “Two Faces” blog, which is highlighting controversial topics related to the environment, economics and entrepreneurship behaviour – all captured from the Global North and Global South perspective. Second, we build “Youth Trybes” in schools which offer workshops in sustainable consumption and environmental clean up. Our main mission is to fish plastic out of Lake Victoria, upcycle it and sell reusable shopping bags into the local market.
WHY DO WE NEED YOUR HELP?
As simple as that: to finally get started (legally) !
Since Trybe has been founded, we developed our business plan, our project & team structure and met other organizations that are happy to collaborate with us.
Our next most important step is to be officially registered as a social non-profit organisation in Uganda which requires (a) a lawyer and (b) money to pay the registration fee. Only then we are able to fully operate as a social business, receive more donations and employ people.
WHO WILL RECEIVE THE MONEY?
Martin, our Head of Business Development and Finance, will receive the money in Uganda and make the payments.
The money will be used to finish & polish our constitution (lawyer) and to register Trybe at the Ministry for Internal Affairs Uganda.
If things turn out well and we even have some money left over, we will buy our own pressing machine for our plastic from it.
