This EP is a collection of songs I have written, produced with Ira Ingber, and which we’ve recently released. The way we recorded and arranged 'Scarecrow' is certainly one of the best results I’ve ever had with a producer. When we first listened to it, my good friend Reverend Barbara Ann Fletcher said to me, with tears in her eyes, “that song makes you a whole new you, and it makes me a whole new me.” Her reaction and comment reached all the way to my soul.
A brief history: Some of you may know that although I grew up in a country music family, I began my career as a folk singer, and even wrote and sang in a psychedelic rock and roll band for a period of time before my country career got started. Country remains very good to me, and I love all kinds of music. I find I am sort of naturally comfortable in Roots music and Americana. These wide-open genres allow me to express myself in a way that demonstrates multiple facets of who I am as a singer/songwriter and recording artist. I released the Last Wild Place Anthology in 2006, my first Americana CD showcasing a blend of those musical styles. At that time, I felt it was the best collection of work I had ever done, and it still stands up for me today.
Not long after finishing that CD, my business relationship and marriage of 20 years ended in what felt like a truly earth-shattering divorce. As devastating as that was, both emotionally and financially, I found that writing songs helped me work through the terrible pain and come out somehow stronger on the other side. It took some time before I was actually able to perform anything I wrote during that period.
Then recently, through the grace of God and my good friend of nearly 50 years, I was introduced to an amazing producer, Ira Ingber, who liked my music, understood my vision, and was eager to be involved. Ira has worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Brian Wilson, J.D. Souther, and Van Dyke Parks. He put together a stellar group of musicians to record the music, and enlisted the help of one of the top three best engineers I have ever worked with – the results have been more wonderful than I ever imagined.
However, the work doesn’t stop there, which is why I’ve started this campaign. We still need to keep distributing the EP digitally as well as over the airwaves, get it promoted to radio, continue supporting the creation of audio and video for promotion as well as for manufacture of the physical product to get it in your hands, and hopefully record a few more songs– all in addition to the streaming that is already available!
My goal of $65,000 is what I need to make this happen – after all, good music isn’t cheap. You are going to have the very best I have to give! Here’s a breakdown of the costs:
