It was like any other day for Jack reporting to work with a smile on his face and ready to assist stranded motorists in the greater Indianapolis area. On September 1, 2017 at approximately 1:40am, Jack was dispatched to assist a stranded motorist on I-70 East at mile marker 78. While working to secure the disabled vehicle on the right shoulder a semi-truck failed to obey the Move Over Law, which requires all vehicles to slow down and/or move over to the next lane to avoid contact.
Jack was struck by this semi which did slow down briefly and tapped the breaks, but continued without pulling over or stopping.
As a result, Jack suffered the loss of his lower left leg and a shattered left hip as well as a fractured femur, shin, and crushed ankle on right side.
Jack is a fighter and a survivor like no other I know. In less than three weeks, Jack has undergone a lower left leg amputation, a left hip replacement and numerous other surgeries to try to return his life to some kind of normalcy.
Unfortunately, the story does not end here. Jack is the primary caregiver for his family including his adult son who suffers from Downs Syndrome and granddaughter.
No one should experience this kind of tragedy and we are asking for your assistance. Jack is unable to return to work for the foreseeable future as he continues on this long journey of recovery. Any help you can provide will go to good use to assist Jack and his family with day to day expenses as well as general peace of mind.
