Help us Help Kyndra

My name is Kristyn Packard. I have a sister, Kyndra, who is the most amazing person I have ever met. Let me tell you a little about her. She is 17 years old and a junior in high school. When she was 7 years old she got diagnosed with diabetes. Then again at 7 in October of 2006 she had her first seizure. She is taking tons of medicine and it still isn't helping. One bad thing is the diabetes and seizures aren't related. She was just blessed with two different diseases. On January 8, 2015 we were at my other sister, Karli's, basketball game. I remember looking in the stands and seeing Kyndra was having a seizure. She quit breathing and was out for 11 minutes. She was grey and I could see my sister going away right before my eyes. Thank God she came around. Since then her seizures have progressively gotten worse and closer together. On December 20, 2015 she had another seizure that locked her up and she quit breathing for 9 minutes. She has had multiple seizures between the one in January and the one in December also. My mom, dad, and Kyndra went to Kansas City on December 21, 2015 to see her neurologist at Children's Mercy. He had news for them. See the thing is medicine isn't preventing her seizures so he said that she would have to come back to Kansas City ASAP to have an extensive 4 night EEG done. If they can find a focal point of her seizure on her brain with this test Kyndra will be getting brain surgery. If a focal point isn't found she will get a vagal nerve stimulator implanted, which is like a defibrillator but it's connected to her vagal nerve and will shock it to stop or shorten her seizure. If the VNS is the way they have to go it's off to the Mayo clinic for mom and Kyndra. We also are looking into getting Kyndra a service dog since she can't feel her seizures coming on the dog can help alert others around her. This girl is the strongest person I know. If I could take some of her pain away I would. Since that isn't possible I am going to try and help some of her stress and my mom's. With surgery, travel, the hospital stays, food, doctor appointments, cost of a service dog, medications, etc the expense is hard. If you have even an extra penny to help my family it would mean the world to us. We are looking at a long rode ahead of us. The best I can hope for is whatever surgery is done it helps her. I am asking everyone to help us as a family be able to do everything we need to do for her. An update will be added after further testing to let everyone know if it is brain surgery or if she will be getting the VNS and heading to the Mayo clinic. Thank you everyone and God bless.
