Kylo needs surgery

$853 of $1,500 goal

Raised by 28 people in 9 months
My wife and I rescued Kylo, a pitbull/sharpei mix, in 2016 from the Carson city animal shelter. For those of you who don't know: Carson city animal shelter is a high kill animal shelter that looks more like a jail than a shelter. The only saving grace for these Cats and Dogs are the dedicated volunteers that work tirelessly to give these poor animals the treatment  they deserve. I came across Kylo's shelter profile (who was originally named Calvin) when my mom and step dad shared a post about him on a sharpei rescue group they follow on facebook. We definitely weren't looking for a dog, but when I saw his picture and read his story something called out to me. I cant explain why I felt this way I just knew I needed to rescue him and I was going to make any adjustments in my life to accommodate him.

33586002_1539070771388348_r.jpegAfter submitting paperwork, the shelter decided kylo needed to take a temperament test to see if he was aggressive. Kylo failed the test twice because he was too scared to even come out of the kennel. With the help of a man named Daryl, we were able to get Kylo out of the shelter and into our home. While at the shelter, the staff was negligent and did not clean his kennel or help him inside at night, so he slept on dirty concrete, outside in the cold.

The first couple of weeks were awful. Kylo had a terrible kennel cough and was extremely afraid of us. There was never any official backstory to Ky,  but  he was covered in scars along his neck and legs, as well as a crooked tail that had been broken and did not heal properly. Whatever he went through, He was terrified of humans and would hide in corners or tight spaces. With a lot of love and work, Kylo slowly came out of his shell and became a light in our lives. He was there when I proposed to my wife, and even attended our wedding. Life has so man surprises, and Ky has been with us through it all.
33586002_153907081056116_r.jpegThis May, my wife and I were relocated to Maui for our jobs. Since Hawaii has a very strict policy on animals coming into the island, Kylo and his brother Taz had to stay on the mainland with my mom until we could finish their quarantine process and bring them to Maui with us.

About a week ago, Kylo stopped eating and drinking water. My mom took him to the vet and it appears he has some blockage in his intestines that needs to be removed. This surgery is something I cannot afford at this time, but my options are limited. I have to either: pay for the surgery, or put Kylo down.

It kills my wife and I to think of these possibilities as Kylo is only 5, and we truly saw him meeting out children and growing old with us. He lived 3 years of his life without love and comfort, and now that he finally has a bed and a loving home, it devastates me to think of him having that taken away.

Any donation, share, and good thought sent our way during this difficult time is greatly appreciated. 100% of donations will go towards medical expenses to cover Kylo's surgery.

10/13 UPDATE

Hello everyone, Kylo is doing great. The surgery was a success. They removed some foreign objects that were in his lower intestine as well as removing a little bit of his intestine as well.

Kylo still has some recovering to do. He was 49lbs when we brought him in when his healthy weight is around 70lbs. Hes not really eating which the Vet said is normal. We are just glad to have this behind us now and will be giving Kylo all the TLC that he needs.

Thank you all for your continued support. If it wasnt for all of you I would have lost my best friend. Ill be sending out a thank you to all of you who donated to Kylos cause. Give me some time as it involves kylo and ill need him to be in better condition.

GREAT NEWS 10/10

I don't know how this happened but my mom and step dad found a vet that I guess heard about Kylo and told us to bring him in right away and she would treat him regardless! upon getting him into his exam they said it would only cost 600$. I am at a loss for words as I am so happy and relieved.

I cant thank all of you enough for your donations, support, and love.

Heres a picture of Kylo standing strong and ready to take this surgery head on. I honestly don't know how he is standing as he was in such a dire condition this morning.

I have reduced the goal to $1500 as this should cover all of gofundmes fees and pay for the surgery as well as all the diagnostic bills from the previous vet. If I receive more money than i requested I am going to buy Kylo some toys and treats as a thank you from all of you to him so he knows who all helped him in his time of need. The rest will go to a charity for dogs, I will find one that helps dogs and family's that are in Kylos situation.

Again, I truly cant thank all of you enough.

Update 10/10

Kylo Is not doing well. His health is declining rapidly. This morning he was unable to get up. After a bit of struggle he managed to get to his feet. I dont know if I'll have the week like I had hoped to raise the money. We might have a day, maybe a couple at most. Thank you all so much for all of your love, shares, and donations. You have given us hope and we will not give up on our baby boy. We rescued him once from a life of abuse and we will rescue him again.

From the bottom of my heart I thank you all for the support
