Kyle's Road to Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Tamara Duncan. I am hoping you can help my friend Kyle Bourrie.

Kyle was in a horrific car accident on December 23, 2015, as a result of the accident Kyle has a serious brain injury, that has left him unable to walk, talk and partially move.

Kyle spent the first 13 months after the accident at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C.

I witnessed Kyle persevere with strength, courage and the willingness to survive as he overcame many obstacles from the numerous operations, infections and difficulties from the recovery of the accident. Kyle is now being cared for at the Ponderosa Lodge in Kamloops.

What does every father, mother, sister, brother, friend want to be able to give and do for someone they love? That's right...give them their life back! We know we can't but what we can do is give Kyle every opportunity to maximize brain healing.
The Occupational professionals have told us we need to normalize his life as much as possible by getting him out into the community, to events, take him for walks, hikes, music in the park, hockey games, wiener roasts, family events, trips. They have told us to hire Occupational specialists to help with speech, swallowing, communication, reading, verbal and non verbal.  We need visual aids to help him communicate, and a van to move him to the events.  Expose him to everything and anything that will stimulate the brain while it is healing.   He has a little over 3 1/2 years before the brain stops the healing process....time is of the essence.

Doctors have told us that there is hope for Kyle to get back the ability to communicate and walk again, that can only happen if Kyle receives regular physio therapy - sadly that isn't provided by the health care system and the funds we raise will go towards those costs.
Another part of Kyle's recovery will be giving him the ability to reconnect with family and friends, that can only happen if we can get Kyle out of Ponderosa Lodge on a regular basis. Giving Kyle the ability to visit people outside of the facility requires a specialized wheel chair and a specialized van. We are also hoping to have Kyle outfitted with a communication device.

At 22 years old Kyle has a true Warrior of Spirit, he is a: son, brother, nephew and friend. He is a loyal, chivalrous, hardworking young man, who loves the outdoors.

It is our hope that Kyle will be able to retain enough stamina that he can continue on to Ponoka, Alberta at a Brain Rehabilitation Centre.

We've put together a short video that shows how Kyle and his Dad spend their days, it shows the love that they have for one another and also shows the spark and determination that Kyle has.
Thank you for your love, kindness and support of Kyle on his journey
