Kyle Tress for the Olympic Games

My Olympic journey began in 2002 with an article in the New York Times: "Bone-Shaking Slide to Gold By 3rd-Generation Olympian". Like many people, I had never heard of skeleton - the sport had just been reintroduced to the Olympics after a 48-year hiatus - but the story resonated with me. The U.S. team won 3 medals in those Olympics, and a brand new generation of athletes - myself included - fell in love with the sport. I knew immediately that this was what I wanted to do with my life.

12 years later I earned a spot on the 2014 Olympic Team. It was one of the proudest moments of my life. Getting there was the hardest thing I've ever done. It took a lot of luck, dedication, funding, failure, perserverence, pain, injury, and grit to make it to the Games.

Today, 16 years after I took my first run down the track, I am entering my final year of competition. I want to go out on top by qualifying for my 2nd Olympic Games this February. To succeed, I need some help

Despite being an Olympian,  a World Cup athlete, and an elected representative to both the U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Bobsled/Skeleton, I receive no direct financial support from USA Bobsled/Skeleton. I work two jobs while training full-time to pay my bills and training expenses, but this year, I need to buy new equipment to give myself the very best chance of earning a spot on the 2018 Olympic Team.

I was disappointed in my performance at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, and I know I can do better. Every cent I raise will go towards my sled and runners, which will cost approximately $10,500.

If you can't donate at this time, the very best way to help is to pass this link on to anyone you know who might be able to support me on the road to PyeongChang in 2018.

Thank you so much for supporting me, for participating in this journey, and for being part of Team USA!
