Hello, my name is Kyla Tipton. I’m 35 years old and am the mother to two baby daughters and three stepdaughters from my husband’s previous marriage.
At the age of 21, my entire world was changed when I was involved in a car accident that left me paralyzed. For a little over four years, I stayed confined in my home fearful of leaving its safe confines, but also fearful of facing a world through the eyes of a person with a disability.
After those four years, I decided that I wanted to take back my freedom and regain my independence. I went back to school, and through the State of Florida’s vocational rehab program, I was able to have a truck outfitted with hand controls, a hydraulic camper shell lift, and a robotic arm to pick up and load my wheelchair into the bed. This truck was not only the means of regaining my independence it was the very symbol of that independence.
In 2013 I met the love of my life, and we were married in 2014. Not long after getting married my husband and I had our first daughter Kailynn in 2015 and in 2018 our family was completed when our sweet Kenna was born. I love the life that we have, and I love being a mother to our children, but once again I am back to being confined to my home. This time I’m not confined by fear, but by circumstances. The truck that had once symbolized my independence was now the roadblock to it because there simply isn’t room to safely travel with my young children inside of it..
My husband and I have looked at multiple different options for a family vehicle with accessibility for my wheelchair and room for my children, and all of them are financially out of our reach. We have reached out to multiple organizations for help and have came up empty-handed. This is what led us to start this campaign.
I understand that just like us finances are tight these days and every dollar that you have and even some you don’t are accounted for, but I would love it if you would contribute to my new endeavor for more independence with whatever size donation you can. If you are unable to contribute, I completely understand and would love it if you would simply pass on my page to your friends and family on whatever social media platforms that you use.
I know crowdfunding has received some negative connotations over the last few years from individuals that used the platform to receive money through deception, but I hope that you can see that my need is genuine and my gratitude is enormous to all those that have already contributed and the ones who are just now reading this message and contemplating if they should give or not.
