HELP A DISABLED OUTDOORSMAN BECOME ENABLED WITH AN ACTION TRACK CHAIR.

I suffered a traumatic head injury from a fall in November of 2003, which paralyzed my left side.  I can get around some with the aid of a Hemi-walker, but uneven terrain, slopes, or long distances are out of the question right-now.

I grew up in Central Illinois, and spent a lot of my childhood and young adult years hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting with my father and brother.  I have always enjoyed nothing more than being in the outdoors.

I went to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1985 to pursue a degree I could use in an outdoor profession, and received a BS. In Zoology specifically wildlife management, and graduated in 1987.  I then decided to continue my education in the Outdoors in 1987 and started a master’s degree in Botany specifically Plant Taxonomy, and graduated with an MS in 1990.  My master’s thesis was studying a portion of the Lower Cache River, in Southern Illinois.  This is a very unique area and contains the oldest trees east of the Mississippi River, and many species that are rare or endangered in the state of Illinois.  This area is one of the newest federal wildlife refuges in the United States., the “Cypress Creek Wildlife Refuge.”

I worked as a Biologist for an engineering consulting firm, working mostly on EIS (Environmental  Impact Statement) projects and wetland permitting and mitigation around the east coast and Midwest, for 13 years before my accident.  Getting in the Outoors is more to me than something to do, it is who I am.

I have been lucky enough to get out in the outdoors on a limited basis, since my accident with the help of family and good friends.  However, having impaired mobility offers an assortment of challenges in the outdoors. It is hard to describe what the Action Track Chair would mean.   I would be able to get into the woods, go to the Beach, or up and down a hill.  Many of these things seem very simple, but when your life changes from an injury and those simple things become difficult to impossible, you no longer take them for granted.  I have had about 13 years, as of 2016, to think about it also.

He has always done things on his own and didn’t really like the idea of asking for help, but with encouragement from friends and family. He discovered the Action Track Chair at the Illinois Deer and Turkey Classic show in Peoria, and test drove one.

We greatly appreciate all donations!  Every little bit Helps!

Insurance and Medi-care will not help cover the expenses of mobility aids, that are to be used outside the Home.
