Knee Surgery for Nicholas

Donation protected
Nicholas Kayonga is a 22 year old student at Kampala University in Uganda. Nicholas loved to play soccer as a child until he was sidelined by a severe knee injury in 2010.  A  bone infection then set in that kept him off the field and out of school for a year.  This injury left him with daily pain and physical disability. The burden of daily pain has not stopped him from pursuing his education, or from becoming a successful entrepreneur. Since finishing his secondary education, and with only $10 in capital, Nick started his own business that is now self sufficient. In fact, his business has allowed him to sponsor his own younger brother to attend school in his hometown.

We have sponsored Nick's education since 2007 when he was in primary school through a non governmental service organization. In addition to completing his secondary education and beginning his own book keeping and screen printing business, Nick was selected to become a teacher through a program that develops leaders and entrepreneurs called Educate!. Nicholas is an ambitious person and in 2017 he was accepted into the Journalism and Mass Communication program at Kampala University.

Since beginning college, Nicholas's medical situation has become an obstacle as walking has become much more difficult and painful. Recently he was able to see a doctor who prescribed a three part surgical intervention in order to save his leg with a total knee replacement.  The first surgery will address the infection in the knee, femur and tibia. The second surgery will be six to seven months later and will involve breaking and resetting the joint and bones and holding them in place with screws. The third surgery will involve implanting an artificial knee.

Nicholas is a strong and independent young man and these surgeries will allow him to regain his mobility, walk without pain and finish his education. The cost for the three surgeries is estimated to be $7000. Please consider making a donation to assist Nicholas in recovering his health and ability to stand and walk so that he may continue to inspire those around him.
