Kibera Girls Education Fund - Protect and Elevate the Lives of Girls in Kibera by Providing Safe Housing
We are raising funds for education of teenage girls in Kibera, Kenya. The girls are in need of safe housing and education. Girls in Kibera are at risk of abuse, including sexual abuse. If they become pregnant they are often forced to marry the abuser. At home girls often have many responsibilities and are not able to study and finish their schooling. Staying in dorms has improved the probability that the girls are able to complete their education.
In East Africa, as in many other African countries, only two-thirds of the children have access to secondary school. But the situation is far worse for girls; only 5 percent of girls graduate, since they are often victimized or forced to drop out of school. Educating girls is fundamental to a sustainable future for African families. “There is no tool for development more effective than the education of girl.” Kofi Annan, Former UN Secretary General
The Kenyan Children Foundation hosted a group of 16 volunteers in February, 2014. While we were there we spent time with the children in Kilbera, one of the largest slums of Africa. We witnessed the needs of teen girls first hand. While there we visited a very unsuitable dorm for 30+ girls . When we returned we began to plan ways to assist these girls.

A charitable foundation has committed $250,000 toward the Kibera Girls Education Fund and providing safe housing for girls. Our group of 16 that traveled to Kenya in 2014, raised $50,000. The Kenyan Children Foundation contributed $100,000 from the sale of property in Kenya. Our group has committed to raise another $200,000 to match the charitable foundation's $250,000 pledge.
Please contribute and/or share. Even a small amount will make a big difference.
100% of monies donated will go to education and housing of girls in Africa.
