Cancer treatment and family care

“April 19th, 2017 will forever be a day that changed my life, it was the day I was told I had Breast cancer.” Kristy Duke Travis is the 42-year-old single mother of three boys who are the loves of her life. Hunter is the oldest, at almost 21, with a career in the Army and currently stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. Parker, 8, and Duke, 6, are students at Eastover-Central Elementary School. In April 2017, Kristy was diagnosed with Metaplastic Breast Cancer and Ductal Carcinoma.  She opted for a double mastectomy and reconstruction and by August 2017 she completed had treatment and was on the road to a normal life ahead. Fast forward to April 25, 2018 just one year later, while on a field trip to the zoo with Parker, Kristy was barely able to walk and was taken to UNC. It was then she learned the breast cancer had metastasized to her liver.  Initial procedures to reduce pain and extreme discomfort have been met with difficulty resulting in lung collapse and infection. While she is prepared to fight this battle like the champion she is, it will take many of us to join together to help her and her boys get through the months to come. We are in the process of begging the Army to allow Hunter a compassionate reassignment to Fort Bragg. Hunter’s dad passed away in a work related accident in December 2003, and Kristy is his only surviving parent. Kristy wants nothing more than for her children to be okay and not to suffer in the journey ahead. The road ahead will be a long and hard one, but Kristy remains positive that she will live each day to the fullest and enjoy every minute possible with her children, family and friends close at her side. Her brother, Sean Duke has arranged appointments at John Hopkins and with the  travel and care of her children and being weak due to the first several procedures and chemotherapy we are reaching out and asking for help for the first time. Kristy has so many amazing friends and family members that have helped in so many ways over the past year and now we are asking to help her fight for her life.  Please share her story and know that she is the strongest person I know and she will prevail. I am Sean Duke, Kristy's brother. We grew up in Fayetteville NC. She lives in Eastover, NC and I live in Clayton, NC. I've created this campaign to help raise money to go to the direct care of Kristy and to her cancer treatment and medical expenses which continue to mount.
