Just short of ten years ago when asked for your prayers, you answered and Kristopher got a new heart. Kristopher is again in the fight of his life and once more we are asking for your prayers.
Kris spent a good part of this past fall visiting doctors as they tried to determine reasons for his low energy, decreased kidney function and overall poor health. He was in and out of the Cardiac Care unit at the U of M in November, coming home Thanksgiving Day but back in the hospital just a few days later. He has remained there since as the doctors have worked to stabilize him to a level required to get him back on the heart transplant list. Yes, his transplanted heart of just shy of ten years is worn out and he needs a new one.
The past two weeks have been especially difficult. On Friday, January 11th he went into septic shock and was put on cardiac life support and a medically induced coma until the infection was contained. Earlier this week they began gradually turning the sedation levels down and he’s responding to commands and questions. His kidney and liver functions are also improving. His current status is Stable but Critical.
Our goal now is to get him back on the transplant list and that means his organs must all be functioning normal and sustained for a period of time. Kris will remain at the University of Minnesota Hospital until he gets a new heart.
