A SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT FOR THE REHABILITATION OF DIOLKIDI!

ÉTAT DE FAIT:
Le 17 octobre dernier, Jean Romane Edmond Diolkidi Edmond, victime d’un ACV, a été pronostiqué d’une mort neurologique à l’Hôpital de Saint-Jérôme.
Immédiatement après avoir été avisés de ce pronostic fatal, un regroupement s’est constitué, composé de la famille artistique et ethno-culturelle ainsi que du plus proche parent du patient, le fils, M. Romano Edmond afin de permettre le transfert du patient à l’Institut et hôpital neurologiques de Montréal. En bref, il s’est agi d’accorder à M. Jean Romane Edmond, une seconde chance à la vie.
C’est cette même dynamique d’unité qui se poursuit aujourd’hui et se consolide afin d’accompagner le patient dans son combat et sa réhabilitation depuis la chirurgie qui s’est ensuivie jusqu’à la période de soins intensifs. À ce jour, depuis la terminaison des soins intensifs le 2 novembre, son état requiert un temps de réhabilitation d’une période indéterminée nécessitant un support assidu et une convergence de ressources concertées multiples.
Considérant ceci, ce même groupe d’amis proches, surtout musiciens et amis de longue date, ont décidé de créer un mouvement de solidarité pour accompagner Diolkidi et particulièrement son fils, Romano Edmond, principal accompagnant de son père, dans ce processus vers sa période de réhabilitation, déjà entamée, période qui suscitera:
OBJECTIFS:
Ce processus comporte trois objectifs essentiels:
1er objectif:
- Un support pour permettre à son fils d’accompagner son père pendant les différents soins médicaux (physiothérapie, ergothérapie, orthophonie) et ce, pendant 4 mois pour commencer;
2e objectif:
- Un support pour permettre à Diolkidi d’effectuer le suivi de cette réhabilitation dans un Centre spécialisé, Neuro-concept.ca , à cet effet à Montréal, où les soins sont reconnus comme étant parmi ceux de la plus haute qualité au monde;
Voici une capsule présentant la clinique Neuro-concept offrant des soins à la fine pointe des nouvelles technologies en la matière:
3e objectif:
- Un support pour les besoins à plus long terme que Diolkidi aura besoin pour réintégrer son rythme de vie après sa réhabilitation à déterminer selon son degré de réhabilitation (partielle ou complète (soins, hébergement adapté (si nécessaire), transport, etc.);
MOYENS:
Dans une phase initiale, nous, le mouvement de solidarité pour Diolkidi, faisons appel à la communauté culturelle ainsi que celle plus élargie de joindre ce mouvement de solidarité et ainsi permettre un prompt rétablissement à notre cher ami.
Pour ce faire, un montant de 40 000$ pour les objectifs est fixé pour appuyer la période de réhabilitation ici à Montréal et permettre au fils de Diolkidi d’accompagner son père pendant cette période.

QUI EST DIOLKIDI?
Diolkidi, du nom qu’on l’appelle en Haïti depuis qu’il s’est initié aux tambours auprès des “Jhawento” (Maîtres-tambour des cérémonies vodou) est un artiste chez qui la tradition côtoie le contemporain. Il a appris tous les rythmes de la tradition haïtienne et est régulièrement sollicité par des groupes de musique moderne et traditionnelle (funk, pop, jazz et courant “rasin”) dans son pays d’origine et outre-mer.
Pendant plusieurs années, il joue et chante en Haïti, au sein du groupe Kanpech et Boukan-Ginen, une formation musicale aux rythmes et à la parole engagés, ce qui lui vaudra une réputation notoire. Tout en s’associant à des projets artistiques d’envergure où la danse, la musique et le théâtre s’articulent au son du tambour (Le Roi Christophe - Ballet Folklorique d’Haïti, Ragamuffin, UK Arts International de Londres), il fréquente régulièrement les grands festivals de musique (États-Unis, Antilles et Europe).
Diolkidi enseigne les rythmes de la tradition haïtienne depuis plusieurs années et consacre également son temps à la composition et à son propre festival, Festival Racines.
Il a participé récemment à de multiples projets de reconnus internationalement, notamment, la troupe et école de danse Nyata Nyata de Zab Maboungou, DJ Windows 98 (Win Butler) et le groupe musical de réputation international, Arcade Fire lors de sa "Reflektor" tournée mondiale.

A SOLIDARITY MOVEMENT FOR THE REHABILITATION OF DIOLKIDI!
CURRENT SITUATION:
On October 17, Jean Romane Edmond, aka Diolkidi, suffered a stroke, and was expected to die a neurological death at the Saint-Jérôme Hospital.
Immediately after this fatal prognosis was given, Diolkidi’s artistic and ethno-cultural family, including his son and next of kin, Mr. Romano Edmond, united in a group to ensure that the patient would be transferred to the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital. The goal, in short, was to give Jean Romane Edmond a second chance at life.
With the same solidarity and strength, Diolkidi’s community continues to support him in his struggle to rehabilitate from surgery following the intensive care period which ended on November 2nd. Diolkidi’s rehabilitation period is currently indefinite. It will also require a vast amount of support and resources.
It was to tackle this challenge that Diolkidi’s family and friends, including a number of musicians, decided to create a solidarity movement to support Diolkidi and his son, Romano Edmond, in this rehabilitation process which is now underway. Providing this support will require the following.
OBJECTIVES:
This process has three essential objectives:
1st Objective:
- Support to allow his son to accompany his father during the various phases of medical care (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy) for 4 months, at least
2nd Objective:
- Support to allow Diolkidi to continue this rehabilitation ,at Neuro-concept.ca, a specialized centre in Montreal, which offers some of the highest quality treatments in the world

3rd objective:
Support for Diolkidi’s long-term needs so that he can to reintegrate into his former life, to be determined based his degree of rehabilitation: (care, adapted accommodation, if necessary, transportation, etc.
MEANS:
In the initial phase, we, the solidarity movement for Diolkidi, are calling upon the cultural community and the greater community to join this solidarity movement and help provide our dear friend with a speedy recovery.
To do this, we have set an objective of $40,000 to support Diolkidi’s rehabilitation period here in Montreal and to enable his son, Romano, to be with his father during this period.

WHO IS DIOLKIDI?
Jean Romane Edmond, aka Diolkidi, was taught the art of traditional Haitian drumming by teachers known as the “Jhawento” (masters of vodou ceremonies).
Diolkidi is an artist who combines traditional and contemporary styles. He has learned the rhythms of the Haitian tradition and is regularly sought out by performers of modern and traditional music (funk, pop, jazz and current “rasin”) in his country of origin and abroad.
Diolkidi played and sang in Haiti for several years as part of Kanpech and Boukan Ginen, a group with socially engaged messages and rhythms, which earned him a great deal of praise. He has also been involved in major artistic projects that merge dance, music and theatre with the sound of the drum (Le Roi Christophe - Ballet Folklorique d'Haïti, Ragamuffin, UK Arts International de Londres), and he regularly performs in major music festivals in the US, the Caribbean and Europe.
Diolkidi has also been teaching the rhythms of the Haitian tradition for several years, and has devoted his time to composition and to producing his own festival, Festival Racines.
He has been involved recently in a number of internationally acclaimed projects including Zab Maboungou’s Nyata Nyata Dance Troupe and School of Dance and DJ Windows 98 (Win Butler), and joined internationally renowned musical group Arcade Fire on its "Reflektor" world tour.
