Sarah's Strength

Donation protected
Sarah and Kolten Reid have a story of strength and survival.
Dealing with not 1 tragedy, but back to back tragedies. This family needs your help.

Less than 8 months after losing their beloved husband and father Scott,
to a 2-year battle with a brain injury from a lifelong condition of Type 1 diabetes.
Sarah and Kolten suffered yet another tragedy.

March 20/19, Sarah contracted a life-threatening case of Bacterial Meningitis and subsequently developed blood clots in her brain causing small strokes.  All of this left Sarah fighting for her life in a coma.

Sarah's Mom Lynn flew in from Ontario to become Sarah's advocate during those early critical days.

Surrounded by her family, friends, a stellar medical staff and most importantly her 4 year old son Kolten, Sarah fought hard and we are proud to say she is a SURVIVOR.

After 60 + days in Foothills Medical Center Sarah graduated to inpatient Neuro rehabilitation where she will spend the next 3 month in Calgary working with a team of doctors, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and audiologists. She potentially will have an additional 3-6 month in Ponoka continuing with her rehabilitation.

As her brain is healing, Sarah is relearning how to walk, overcoming memory issues and confusion, battling with substantial hearing loss and dealing with the heartache of being separated from Kolten.
Sarah will require continuing specialized care in the months and possibly years to come.
Kolten has been resilient through a lifetime of tragedy.  He is currently living with Sarah’s brother and his family where he has been busy learning to ride a bike and playing soccer mixed with trips to Calgary to visit with his mom whom he misses terribly.

Sarah has a long road of rehabilitation ahead while family and friends make every effort to help Kolten through this difficult time ahead.
Sarah will require hearing aids, possible home modifications and care as well as continuing OT, PT, and Speech therapy after release.
There may also be travel to Ponoka required for all in-patient rehabilitation beyond the 3 month mark.

It is unknown at this time if Sarah will ever return to her cherished job as an elementary school teacher.
