Kokomo’s vet bills and memorial

Donation protected
Intro:  I recently lost my baby boy Kokomo when he was only 12 years young, despite willing to do ANYTHING to save him.  I’m looking for help to pay off his medical bills.  If I raise more than what I need for his vet bills, I plan to donate any and all extra funding to Caring for Cats in Kokomo’s name.  Caring for Cats is a no-kill cat shelter I volunteer with in North St. Paul, MN.

More About Kokomo:
Shortly after I moved into my very own apartment I picked out a little white furball from a friend’s litter.  I immediately named him Kokomo and I visited him everyday until he was old enough to come home with me.  From then on it was always me and Kokomo.
He was my baby, my best friend, my roommate, my everything.  No matter where we were, who I was with, or what I was going through, Kokomo was there.  We moved 6 times together, including a place 2 hours away from anything I was used to.  For me home was always wherever Kokomo was; Kokomo was my home.
Eventually I became involved with the man who became my husband, and he became involved with Kokomo.  My husband grew up with cats but never really liked them until Kokomo.  My two favorite boys became best friends, despite Kokomo’s feisty and ornery demeanor!
Anytime we were away from home we both missed Kokomo.  In fact, on the last day of our honeymoon we both agreed that we were excited to get home just to see Kokomo!  So when we went on a road trip to Arkansas, Kokomo came with.  We got some weird looks when we took him out at rest stops so he could stretch his legs.  He always did great in the car.  He even came with us to the cabin several times.
Two years ago, Kokomo was diagnosed with stomatitis, a painful mouth condition.  Last year, after the medications failed, we had all of his teeth extracted in hopes of curing his stomatitis.  Unfortunately he still needed medication but was doing much better and acting more himself.  Then a few weeks ago he stopped eating and was hiding in weird places in the house.  I took him to the emergency vet thinking he was dehydrated and that his stomatitis was flaring up.  I figured that he would get some fluids and a new medication and we would be on our way.  I never ever thought that the vet would tell us that he was full of cancer and had at best two painful weeks to live.  I screamed that we were suppose to have at least 4 more years together and I begged for options but the vet said there were none.
The only time I have ever felt this devastated was when my doctor told me they had to remove my ovaries at age 29, before I was married and before I had any kids.  At least then I had my Kokomo, my fur baby.
We were able to take him home for one more night.  We fed him his favorite treats: yogurt and ice cream.  We let him hang out outside as much as he wanted to.  We got him to walk on wet cement so he can still “greet” us everyday when we come home.  We showered him with cuddles and kisses.
The next day was the worst day of my life: saying forever goodbye to my Kokomo.  I held him in my arms and told him, “it’s ok, I got you my baby boy.”  I was one of the first things he saw when he first opened his eyes and I was the last thing he saw when he closed them forever.
The pain is intense, the tears still flow even as a write this.  I would give anything to have my baby Kokomo back.
